This kind of thing is everywhere, Pylons and Wind farms gallor!
1 Why cannot the current grid system traffic the power we all need around?
2 Why use wind as a generator?
Unreliable, unsightly, unwanted, unpopular.
I'm sure generators in the sea are better as tide flow tends to be predictable, tends to be unobtrusive, tends to be available around an island, tends to be within the UK's prowess of off-shore engineering; we are good at it!

I went to the National Grid exhibition last week and these new pylons are needed to connect to the existing route near Shrewsbury! The location of the wind turbines seems to be 'done & dusted' and slipped through without much publicity - there will be 100's of them in Mid Wales - just west of Welshpool up towards Lake Vwrnwy. These wind farms are needed to meet Government/EU targets for 'green' energy! They hinted that the 'best' alternative, not needing more power lines, would be a nuclear power station adjacent to existing power stations! The nearest pylons viewable from our house will be about 5 miles in the next but one valley - we can see two wind farms - one at 17 & the other 34 miles distant - not too bad at that distance! We went to Aintree for the track day on Saturday and noticed how massive the 50m pylons are near Runcorn & Helsby - they will not 'fit' into Welsh valleys or the Shropshire plateau! I hope I don't sound too 'nimby-istic' - we are all using more & more power so a solution needs to be found!
Enjoyed your article about the car - look forward to hearing from others about theirs too!

Thanks for the words on this 'quiet' furum.
I have a bit of thing about this energy issue.
We all need more power (?) and I'm using a stck typing this to the forum etc. Life without the mod cons of communication would be tedious. Imagine ordering a catalogue over the phone again!
However, there must be a better way than windmills. There is a row of the giants up by the turn-off to Barbon hillclimb, what a sight and what a welcome to the Lake District!
Just why can't the under sea/coastline be viable? Harder to do: yep More costly: yep
Less visual: yep Reliable: yep UK good at it?; yep
The argumants will go on, the Government will continue to ignor/bypass those who live by chance in the way of green progress.
How about turning a few things OFF!

I have to agree with comments received so far, Why the hell do we need wind farms when we are an island surrounded by water, hydro-elecric power is the most efficient energy generator, and we are told 2/3rds of our planet is covered in water! There must be a vested interest in wind farms, or our wonderful goverment wouldn`t be pursuing them so avidly. Aren`t the bloody things made in Scandinavia? If so where`s the commercial sense in that, Dont get me on my hobby horse of goverment spending, why are we subsidising India when thay have more billionaires than we do? A helluva lot of the money designated for foreign aid is abused. Now where was I? Oh yes, see you all at Shelsley Loton or Prescott... busy month coming up! I might even start a thread on my 24-year ownership and development of the Cossie, or going back somewhat further to my experiences with 1650cc Anglia, Diva, Escort BDG and Davrian. Happy days, well some of them......

Spill the beans!
More interesting that sky high windmills...must keep the Europeans happy.
